A TOTAL of 12 individuals sustained physical injuries after a public utility vehicle (PUJ) and a sedan collided along M.L. Quezon National Highway near the foot of Marcelo Fernan Bridge in Barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City on Saturday night, Aug. 2, 2025.
According to the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office’s Traffic Enforcement Unit, the incident occurred at 7:01 p.m. and was reported by 8:10 p.m.
Of the 12 victims, 11 were identified as the passengers and driver of the PUJ.
Initial investigation, including closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, revealed that both vehicles were traveling in the same direction toward Barangay Mactan when the sedan swerved into the outer lane, colliding with the PUJ.
The PUJ, driven by a 30-year-old, lost control and veered into the gutter, eventually turning sideways.
Among the injured were vendors, company employees and children, all of whom were immediately rushed by ambulance to the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital.
The sedan, driven by a 29-year-old seafarer, also sustained front-end damage.
Both vehicles suffered significant damage, though the exact extent is still being assessed.
Authorities are conducting further investigation. Formal charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and damage to property are expected to be filed.
