OVER 16,000 athletes, coaches, technical officials, and committee members from 44 local government units in Cebu will be competing in 24 sports categories and 10 cultural competitions next month.

Meanwhile, the Cebu Provincial School Board (PSB) has approved a budget of P3.9 million for the Sports and Cultural Festival in Cebu Province, set to take place in the City of Naga from Feb. 9-14.

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, who chairs the PSB, signed the budget request submitted by the Department of Education (DepEd) through Dr. Senen Paulin, Cebu Provincial Schools Division Superintendent, during a meeting at the Capitol on Jan. 28.

The allocated funds will cover food, snacks, and uniforms for approximately 1,410 personnel and committee members participating in the event.

Additionally, DepEd will contribute P3.7 million to the festival.

The sports and cultural meet is expected to gather over 16,000 participants, including athletes, coaches, technical officials, and committee members from 44 local government units in Cebu.

Dr. Paulin noted that preparations are in full swing, especially with the increased number of participants this year following a pause due to the pandemic.

“They have been encouraged; and let us also take note that their participation is endorsed by their mayor, meaning their mayor is also interested,” Paulin said via Sugbo News.

The Provincial Government has also allocated funds for the City of Naga, the event’s host, along with neighboring towns such as Minglanilla, San Fernando, and Carcar City.

Winners of the competition will represent Cebu Province in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet. (MVG)
