TWO individuals were injured following a vehicular collision on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, along M.L. Quezon National Highway in Barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City, in front of a private bank.
According to the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO), the accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. and involved a parked sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a public multicab.
LCPO spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Christian Torres told SunStar Cebu on Wednesday, June 25, that the multicab driver sustained minor injuries. He was rushed to the City District Hospital and was discharged the following morning after doctors confirmed he had no fractures.
A female passenger of the multicab also reported minor injuries but declined medical treatment.
Torres said the SUV was parked on the side of the road with its hazard lights on when the multicab, which was bound for Pusok, collided with its rear.
The impact was strong enough to trap the driver in his seat for several minutes before he was rescued.
When asked about liability, Torres said that while the parked SUV was partially at fault for obstructing the road, greater responsibility lies with the driver of the multicab who failed to notice the stationary vehicle in time to avoid the collision.
He added that since no formal complaints were filed and both sides agreed to settle, no suspensions or charges would be imposed.
Authorities said no official damage estimate had been declared as of Wednesday, June 25. (DPC)
