A TOTAL of 24 individuals were hired on the spot during the Lapu-Lapu City Public Employment Service Office (Peso) barangay job fair held in Barangay Agus on Friday, March 14, 2025.
Peso head Kim Francisco in a message to SunStar Cebu on Saturday, March 15, said 74 applicants registered for the barangay job fair, including four displaced individuals from the Mactan Export Zone (MEZ).
Francisco said the job fair featured 1,894 job openings from 11 participating companies, including those in business process outsourcing, supermarkets and MEZ-based manufacturing industries.
He added that other employers included English as a second language schools, information technology solutions companies and healthcare providers.
In addition to job opportunities, several government agencies were present to streamline the processing of necessary requirements.
A total of 35 individuals also registered with Philippine Health Insurance Corp., 31 with the Social Security System (SSS), 21 with Pag-Ibig, and three applied for National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearances.
Francisco highlighted the job fair’s convenience, saying that employers and job opportunities came directly to the barangay, making it easily accessible for job seekers.
“It was a great help to the applicants as employers and job opportunities came right to our barangay… Additionally, our one-stop-shop services for SSS, Pag-Ibig, PhilHealth, and NBI were also available for the convenience of our job seekers and barangay constituents,” Francisco said in a mix of Cebuano and English.
The Barangay Agus job fair was the second held in Lapu-Lapu City for 2025. The first was in Barangay Punta Engaño last Feb. 28.
The next barangay job fair will be held in Barangay Pajac on April 4 at the Abuno Gym.
The Peso constantly reminds applicants to bring their resumes, any available work and training certificates and government-issued identification cards to the job fairs. / DPC
