IT WAS a happy start of the week for three centenarians from Cebu City, who were given their cash incentives for reaching the age of 100 years old.
The centenarians include Raymund Sabala from Barangay Babag, Felisa Llamedo from Barangay Bulacao and Jesus Solon, according to the Cebu City Public Information Office Facebook page.
Sabala and Llamedo received P85,000 each, while Solon received P100,000.
Councilor Pastor Alcover Jr., who chairs the committee on senior citizens affairs, handed the financial incentive to Sabala on Monday, April 7, 2025, while Llamedo and Solon received theirs on Tuesday, April 8.
Llamedo turned 100 last Jan. 14, while Solon turned 100 last Jan. 29. There was no mention of Sabala’s birthday.
The PIO added that Solon is the brother of former Cebu City mayor Florentino Solon.
This initiative is pursuant to the local ordinance, which provides cash incentives to senior citizens who reach the age of 80 years old and above.
The ordinance provides for a cash incentive of P5,000 to senior citizens who are 80-89 years old; P15,000 for those who are 90-99 years old; and P80,000 when they turn 100 years old.
Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia had earlier directed the concerned offices to expedite the distribution of the cash gifts, emphasizing the importance of promptly providing assistance to senior citizens for their needs, particularly for medical care. / JJL with PR
