33,000 register for barangay, SK elections

A TOTAL of 33,506 residents in Central Visayas processed their applications for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) during the 10-day registration period on Aug. 1-10, 2025.

This was announced by Francisco Pobe, director of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Central Visayas, on Monday, Aug. 11.

Comelec data showed that 23,206 applications were filed in the province of Cebu, while 10,300 were recorded in Bohol.

The registration took place as both the Senate and the House of Representatives moved to extend the term of barangay officials from three years to four.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is expected to sign this week the bill postponing the BSKE from Dec. 1, 2025 to November 2026. / ANV
