THE Department of Education (DepEd) Toledo City Division has established four new public secondary schools for school year 2025-2026 in various barangays to ensure schoolchildren will have access to education, especially in the underserved areas of the city.
Funded by the Local School Board (LSB) of Toledo City through the Special Education Fund (SEF), the newly opened schools are Primo and Teresa Caboñita Sigue National High School (PTCSNHS) in Barangay Matab-ang, Marcelo and Anunciacion Libre-Dolino National High School (MALDNHS) in Barangay Cabitoonan, Gen. P. Del Rosario National High School (GPRNHS) in Barangay Don Andres Soriano (DAS), and Pangamihan National High School (PNHS) in Barangay Pangamihan.
According to Joshua Honoridez, LSB liaison officer, the aforementioned schools’ locations were identified by Dr. Joseph Irwin Lagura, schools division superintendent, upon the request of Toledo City Mayor Marjorie Perales.
To date, PTCSNHS, MALDNHS, and GPRNHS only offer Grade 7, while PNHS offers Grades 7 and 8. More grade levels will be opened in the succeeding school years.
Perales recalled that the project started when Councilor Ophelio Dolino donated a one-hectare lot in Barangay Cabitoonan for MALDNHS, which will be accessible to students from Barangays Cabitoonan and Ibo.
“GPRNHS will also decongest the DAS National High School, which has the biggest secondary population in the city,” Perales said.
“With the growing population of Toledo City, this is of great help not only for the schoolchildren but for parents as well, maka-save na sila for their transportation costs, safer and shorter travel time in going to and from school, and an opportunity for more secondary teaching and non-teaching employment,” Perales added.
The mayor assured DepEd Toledo of her continued support, saying more school buildings and facilities will be built under her administration through the SEF. (Niel Fuji B. Eguna)
