Staying active just got easier for those in the south, with a new space dedicated to fitness, wellness and community. With the opening of the brand-new track oval and soccer field at Talisay City Central School, there’s no need to travel far just to get a good run in. More than just an athletic facility, this space is set to be a go-to spot for joggers, aspiring athletes and anyone looking to stay active without the long commute.
Here are five things you need to know about this exciting development:
Training ground for future champions
Talisay City has long been home to talented athletes, and this track oval is built to support their dreams. During the inauguration of the oval and football field on March 27, 2025, Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas and city councilors invited Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVRAA) athletes to be the first to experience the oval. The athletes were also awarded cash incentives and certificates of recognition.Whether it’s for local competitions or national tournaments, the facility provides a dedicated space where runners can improve their speed and endurance. No more training on uneven roads or dodging traffic — this is a game-changer for sports development in the city.
Safer, more accessible for everyone
Gone are the days when joggers and early risers had to weave through sidewalks and busy streets just to get their morning exercise. With the track oval’s soft opening, Talisaynons now have a secure and well-maintained place to walk, jog or run. The oval measures 300 meters — shorter than the standard 400 meters — but the mayor explained that extending it would have required demolishing a building with 12 classrooms, which would have been a waste. What matters most is that the city now has an oval, providing a dedicated space for fitness and an opportunity for the community to stay active. Plus, it’s free for now, making fitness accessible to more people!
Soccer field for young footballers
Football is gaining more popularity in the Philippines and Talisay City is keeping up with the trend. The newly renovated soccer field boasts better turf, goalposts and clear field markings, creating a proper venue for young players to develop their skills. Whether you’re playing for fun or aiming for competitive leagues, this field is ready to welcome future football stars.
Open as early as 4 a.m.
For those who love to start their day with a run, the track oval opens as early as 4 a.m.. Morning schedules run until 8, while afternoon sessions are from 4 to 8 p.m. On weekends and holidays, the facility stays open from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m., giving everyone more time to break a sweat and stay active. However, Gullas reminded the public that the oval is still in its soft opening phase, meaning schedules may change as they assess its use and identify areas for improvement before finalizing operations.
More sports facilities coming soon
The City Government has bigger plans for the area, with a basketball court and swimming pool set to be inaugurated soon. This expansion will further solidify Talisay City as a sports hub, encouraging more residents — both young and old — to embrace a healthier and more active lifestyle.
At its core, the new track oval and soccer field represent more than just sports. As Talisay City continues to invest in health and fitness, this space will undoubtedly become a place where friendships are formed and dreams take flight.
