SIXTY major surgeries worth an estimated P9 million to P12 million if performed in private hospitals were carried out for free during a one-day medical-surgical mission at the Cebu Provincial Hospital–Bogo on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025.
The operations — including gallstone removals and hernia repairs — were performed in three operating rooms with five tables running continuously.
Skilled medical teams from Sui Generis Missions, the Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery Core group and other partners conducted the procedures.
The Capitol’s Public Information Office said each major surgery would have cost between P150,000 and P200,000 in a private facility.
The mission also provided 77 minor surgeries, 16 pediatric and 101 adult consultations, 268 ophthalmology services, 104 dental services, legal consultations at the Bogo and Medellin Jails and HIV screening for 41 individuals, four of whom enrolled in pre-exposure prophylaxis.
The mission will continue on weekends this month in provincial hospitals in Danao, Balamban and Carcar as part of Cebu Province’s monthlong founding anniversary celebration. / CDF
