Filipino-American actor and former matinee idol Roger Calvin has died at the age of 79 on July 30, 2026.
Roger is survived by his children, including Emmy Award-winning KTLA news anchor Cher Calvin, who previously worked with GMA Network and ABS-CBN.
Roger became a contract star of LEA Productions, where he starred in films such as “Manang Biday,” the movie that introduced him to audiences in 1966. He also appeared in “Kwatang,” “Nag-Aapoy na Damdamin,” “Salamisim,” “Artista ang Aking Asawa,” “Boom Bang Bang,” “Devil Woman” and “My Funny Girl.”
In 1972, he migrated to New York, where he worked as a bank teller and advertising assistant. In 2024, Roger was honored as a FAMAS Iconic Movie Actor of Philippine Cinema. His final screen appearance was in “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” in 2019. / TRC
