Aboitiz infra assumes Bohol Int'l Airpot
ABOITIZ InfraCapital Inc. (AIC), the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group, has officially assumed operations of the Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA), further expanding its growing portfolio of airport assets in the Philippines.
The formal turnover from the Department of Transportation and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines was completed on June 16, 2025. BPIA is now the third airport under AIC’s management, following Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) and Laguindingan International Airport in Misamis Oriental.
Located in Panglao, Bohol, BPIA is the ninth-busiest airport in the country and plays a key role in supporting domestic and international tourism. The airport, branded as the “Green Gateway to the World,” will undergo a series of phased upgrades under a P4.53 billion public-private partnership to improve its infrastructure and passenger experience.
“We are excited to officially begin operations at Bohol-Panglao International Airport and bring our brand of operational excellence, innovation and passenger-focused service to this important gateway,” said AIC president and chief executive officer Cosette Canilao. “This project is about more than infrastructure — it’s about enabling tourism, empowering local economies and creating more inclusive growth across the Visayas.”
Initial improvements will include the expansion of the passenger terminal building, modernization of airside and landside facilities and installation of upgraded airport systems. These efforts are expected to increase annual passenger capacity from two million to 2.5 million in the first two years of operations, with plans to boost capacity to 3.9 million passengers per annum by 2030.
“This official handover marks the beginning of a new chapter for Bohol-Panglao International Airport,” said Rafael Aboitiz, AIC vice president and head of the Airports Business. “We are committed to transforming BPIA into a globally competitive gateway that reflects the beauty and hospitality of Bohol while helping unlock its full tourism and economic potential.”
AIC began operating Laguindingan International Airport, the country’s sixth-busiest gateway, in April 2025. It also operates MCIA, the second-busiest airport in the Philippines and a four-star Skytrax-rated facility. / KOC
