ALLIANCE Global Group Inc. (AGI), the holding firm of billionaire Andrew Tan, is expanding its presence in Cebu with a planned integrated resort development within Mactan Newtown in Lapu-Lapu City. The project forms part of the company’s P59 billion ($1.01 billion) capital expenditure program for 2025, aimed at accelerating growth in real estate, tourism and spirits production.
The Cebu resort is one of three high-impact projects under AGI’s leisure and hospitality unit, Travellers International, which is also rolling out new developments in Boracay Newcoast and Westside City in Parañaque. Travellers gets P5 billion of the group’s total budget to support these expansions, including the construction of the Narra Palm Hotel and Villa at Newport World Resorts in Pasay City. The Filipino-branded luxury hotel will feature 157 suites and villas with exclusive gaming areas for VIP guests.
The largest portion of AGI’s 2025 capex—P50 billion—is allocated to Megaworld Corp., its real estate arm. The funding will support the development of township communities, premium office buildings, lifestyle malls and new hotels in key locations such as Metro Manila, Iloilo, Bacolod, Pampanga, Palawan and Boracay.
Megaworld plans to add over 139,000 square meters of new gross leasable office space and more than 151,000 square meters of retail space. It is also introducing 3,600 new hotel rooms and building new venues for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions. At least two new townships are expected to be launched this year, bringing its total to 37 integrated developments nationwide.
AGI Chief Executive Officer Kevin Tan, at the company’s annual stockholders’ meeting on Thursday, June 19, 2025, said capital investments are expected to continue focusing on market expansion and strengthening operational capacities. He said they see significant opportunities in real estate, tourism, and consumer markets where they hold strong competitive advantages.
The remaining P4 billion will be allocated to Emperador Inc. to boost its global whisky business. Expansion plans include doubling production at The Dalmore Distillery in Scotland and increasing capacity at Invergordon’s maturation complex by 1.5 million casks.
AGI posted P223.6 billion in consolidated revenues in 2024, a six percent increase from the previous year. / KOC
