HUNDREDS of women will paint Lapu-Lapu City pink on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 5 p.m. for the 2nd 2GO Reyna Bulakna Fun Run at the Mactan Newtown.
Over 800 women of all ages, clad in pink-themed singlets, will gather at the Liberty Shrine to kick off the fun run.
Reyna Bulakna is an all-female fun run held in the lead-up to Ironman 70.3 Lapu-Lapu on Sunday, August 10.
Organized in partnership with the Ironman Group Philippines, the annual five-kilometer run was named in honor of Reyna Bulakna, the wife of local hero Datu Lapu-Lapu.
It serves as a tribute to the strength, courage, and resilience of women — qualities celebrated both in sport and in the country’s cultural heritage.
In connection with the Fun Run, the management of Mactan Newtown has announced a temporary road closure throughout the entire township from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to ensure the safety of participants and smooth conduct of the event.
Access to and from the township will be limited but vehicles heading to or from Savoy, Belmont Hotel, and Gordon Ramsay Restaurants may still use the Angasil entrance located behind Belmont Hotel.
Meanwhile, the Lapu-Lapu City Government will implement temporary road closures on Saturday and Sunday for the IronKids and Ironman 70.3 events, respectively.
On Sunday, a full two-lane closure will be enforced from 4:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm from Barangay Punta Engaño Road to the Municipality of Cordova. This full road closure is authorized under Ordinance No. 17-002-2025.
An estimated 2,000 triathletes from over 40 countries are expected to compete in the IronMan 70.3.
On Saturday, on the other hand, a portion of Punta Engaño Road will be closed from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Lapu-Lapu City Police Office spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Christian Torres said almost 400 personnel will be deployed to monitor the race routes, including the fun run. Torres said deployment started Thursday, August 7.
The Reyna Bulakna Run was first launched in 2024, following the earlier success of IronGirl runs held in 2016 and 2019 in Cebu.
It was introduced to give women of all ages and athletic levels a platform to celebrate fitness, sisterhood, and community outside the competitive IronMan circuit.
The 2024 run drew nearly 600 runners from teenagers to senior citizens, with some joining as mother-daughter duos and friend groups.
Unlike competitive races, the Reyna Bulakna Run is non-timed and designed to be inclusive, festive, and empowering.
All finishers received a floral-themed medal and refreshments, with live music and wellness booths awaiting runners at the finish line. / DPC
