NEARLY 800 police officers have been deployed by the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) inside and outside the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) for tonight’s (January 16, 2025) free concert organized by the Cebu City Government.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Maria Theresa Macatangay, deputy city director for operations, said the event has been carefully planned to avoid a repeat of previous concerts at the CCSC that resulted in chaos and nearly caused a stampede due to people forcing their way into the venue.
Tickets have been issued to monitor the number of attendees allowed inside the CCSC.
Once the venue reaches its capacity, it will be closed, but those unable to enter can still watch the concert via a large LED screen set up along Osmeña Boulevard.
The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) will close Osmeña Boulevard at the RR. Landon intersection to accommodate young spectators without tickets.
“Hopefully, the viewing public will just cooperate with the security protocols that the PNP has implemented in the area so that we won’t have any problem later and then they will all just gonna enjoy the show and the fun that gonna bring,” said Macatangay.
Police expressed gratitude for the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Central Visayas’ presence at the venue to inspect attendees and prevent illegal drugs from being brought inside.
Alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited at the CCSC.
Security personnel will check all drinks brought by attendees to ensure none are smuggled inside, as intoxicated individuals in the crowd could pose significant problems. (AYB)
