EDGAR Marshall “Egay” Alqueza emerged as the “Bowler of the Week” after a hard-fought victory in the Sugbuanon Bowlers United (SugBU) Weekly Sunday Shootout on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the SM Seaside Bowling Center.
Alqueza clinched the top honor with a score of 186 pinfalls in the final shootout, narrowly edging out Lemuel Paquibot, who finished with an impressive 184.
Mel Fines secured third place with a 172, rounding out a highly competitive
final round.
Domination
Alqueza, Paquibot and Fines earned their spots in the championship showdown by dominating their respective divisions in the earlier rounds of the tournament.
In Division A, Egay Alqueza showcased consistent brwilliance, leading the pack with a formidable four-game aggregate of 877 pinfalls.
He was followed by Nestor Ranido (824), Ted Convocar (817), TBonz Williams (780) and Arthur Tapaya (768), who completed the top five finishers in the division.
The Mixed Division B & C saw Fines and Paquibot deliver stellar performances, claiming the top two spots with 834 and 746 notches, respectively.
Romy Mauro (745), Roger Asumbrado (734) and Dodong Dante (728) completed the Top 5 in their competitive field.
“Just lucky that the big guns (GJ Buyco, Jomar Jumapao, Aui Padawan and Mark Hodgkinson) are not around,” Alqueza said.
Buyco, Jumapao, Padawan and Hodgkinson are currently vying for top honors in the 49th MWA-Singha Thailand International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Blu-O Rhythm & Bowl in Bangkok. / SUNSTAR Cebu Sports
