Businessman Atong Ang and actress Gretchen Barretto are now suspects in the missing sabungero case, the Department of Justice said. But when asked about this news, Justice Jesus Crispin Remulla said, “sooner than later it will happen.”
“They will be compared, because they have been named, so we have to include them as suspects,” said Remulla, referring to the two having been named by the whistleblower.
“That will be evaluated by the fiscals, our group of fiscals who will be assigned to evaluate all the evidence so that we will know what cases to be filed properly,” Remulla said.
The case buildup against Ang and Barretto is now being prepared, but Remulla admitted that this will be a difficult fight because of the money and connections of the two.
“There are 20 people in the alpha list... The alpha group of e-sabong. The alpha group is the main group that runs the show,” said the justice secretary.
Ang filed a case Thursday, July 3, 2025, against the whistleblower who tagged him as the mastermind behind the disappearance of the sabungeros. / HBL
