CEBU City Mayor Nestor Archival expressed satisfaction with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s fourth State of the Nation Address (Sona) Monday, July 28, 2025.
Archival specifically commended the President's call for mandatory, regular status reports on all flood-control projects from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and local government units (LGUs).
The mayor stated that DPWH flood-control projects, like drainage systems, will connect with the LGUs' drainage master plans.
He also supports the President's view on the public's shared responsibility in waste management to mitigate flooding. For his part, Archival will implement the rainwater catchment ordinance and the solid waste management program.
"Every time we have declogging, there is a lot of plastic blocking water in the pipes. Rest assured, we can support what the President said," Archival said.
Regarding the national government's initiative to provide free laptops and educational materials to schools, Archival affirmed his support. He added that the city will seek funding to provide its own laptops to selected beneficiaries.
Archival also agreed with the proposal to add more lights in recreational parks. He believes this promotes healthy living and activities in these areas. He stated that the city's plazas lack sufficient lighting and will seek more suitable locations for parks and playgrounds, especially for children from marginalized sectors.
On the P20 subsidized rice program, Archival confirmed receiving correspondence from the Department of Agriculture. This has been endorsed to the city council for approval of the LGU's financial counterpart in the program. (EHP)
