CEBU City mayor-elect Nestor Archival prefers to keep the main Sinulog events at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) rather than relocating them to the South Road Properties (SRP).

Archival explained his stance by saying that not all individuals attending Cebu’s grand festival have their own personal transportation, making the more central CCSC a more accessible venue for the general public.

Moreover, the mayor-elect emphasized the traditional aspect of the Sinulog celebration, which revolves around the feast of Señor Santo Niño.

He believes that the festivities should remain near the religious center, which is the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño, where the feast is observed.

When asked how to further improve the Sinulog events, Archival said he has yet to discuss the matter with the newly-elected officials.

He reiterated his advocacy for a “collaborative” leadership, suggesting that decisions on such a major city event should involve broad consultation.

Previous Sinulog events in the years 2023 and 2024 were held in the SRP, during the administration of former city mayor Michael Rama.

Upon the assumption of outgoing Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia to the mayoral position, the Sinulog 2025 location was reverted to the CCSC.

Garcia earlier said business owners and small entrepreneurs were so happy with the location of the festivities, and hotels were nearly fully booked. / JPS
