THE international spotlight turns to Cebu as it proudly hosts the ITF Masters Tour — MT200 Asmara Cup, the first-ever International Tennis Federation (ITF) Masters-level tournament in the Philippines, from Aug. 26 to Sept. 6, 2025, at the prestigious Asmara Urban Resort & Lifestyle Village in Banilad, Cebu City.

Presented by the Department of Tourism (DOT) and co-presented by the Kaiser International Health Group and Manila Bankers Assurance, this landmark sports event is sanctioned by the ITF and marks a groundbreaking addition to the country’s sports tourism calendar.

Over 100 athletes aged 30 and above from across the globe are expected to compete, with confirmed participants from the Philippines, Japan, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Italy, Argentina, Canada, Taiwan and Belgium.

“We’re honored to bring the ITF Masters Tour to Cebu,” said Carlo Cordaro, founder and creative lifestyle director of Asmara. “This event reflects not just our commitment to tennis, but also our belief in Cebu as a premier destination for world-class sports, wellness, and tourism experiences.”

Tournament director Ilynn Hupano echoed the excitement, saying, “We’re expecting a vibrant mix of local and international players who embody the true spirit of competitive camaraderie. Beyond the games, the Asmara Cup is an opportunity for cultural exchange, tourism promotion, and age-inclusive community celebration. We invite everyone to be part of this

historic milestone.”

The tournament is expected to generate significant economic activity, with anticipated boosts in hotel bookings, dining, and cultural exploration as athletes and guests immerse themselves in Cebu’s vibrant offerings.

As part of the Masters Tour, the tournament promotes lifelong fitness, wellness, and international camaraderie through sport.

The MT200 Asmara Cup aligns with the DOT’s mission to position the Philippines as a hub for sports and wellness tourism. The resort is also inviting retirees, expats, and local tennis communities to participate or spectate, blending global athleticism with Filipino hospitality.

Following the MT200 event, Asmara will host the 7th Asmara Open tennis tournament on Nov. 6–16, continuing its mission to champion tennis in the region and beyond. / PR
