KAWASAN Falls and all its activities, including canyoneering activities, reopened Monday, June 23, 2025, after its temporary closure due to muddy and unsafe water conditions on Sunday, June 22.
However, in the neighboring town of Alegria, as of 11 a.m., June 23, canyoneering operations have not yet been given a green light by their Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), citing ongoing safety assessments.
This brief closure is a precautionary measure by the Municipal Government of both towns, ensuring the safety of their tourists and guides following continuing rains in the area.
The town experienced moderate to heavy downpour Saturday night. After a deliberate assessment, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Badian and Alegria decided to temporarily stop all their activities.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecast, the Visayas experienced partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms on Sunday, resulting in heightened risk of all the activities.
The Badian area condition normalized as weather improved early Monday, allowing a clear way for operations to resume.
“Following the careful monitoring and assessment of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, we have determined that the water levels and currents have returned to their normal state, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone,” the local government of Badian said through its tourism page Breathtaking Badian on June 23.
The Kawasan Falls Cebu Canyoneering Adventure official Facebook page confirmed on Monday its full operation with strict protocols and trained guides to ensure a fun and secure experience for tourists and locals alike.
The Alegria MDRRMO, meanwhile, has yet to issue a reopening advisory, leaving the canyoneering activities temporarily closed until further notice.
Visitors are advised to follow all safety guidelines and stay updated on weather advisories to ensure safety and fun experience. (Julie Anne G. Sajetarios, HNU intern)
