THE Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Bankers Institute of the Philippines (Baiphil) to enhance the capabilities of banking professionals amid an increasingly complex financial environment.

Under the agreement, BAP and Baiphil will jointly conduct capacity-building programs targeting employees and senior management of BAP member banks. The sessions will cover a wide range of industry-critical areas, including banking regulations, cybersecurity, sustainable finance, investment and trust banking, risk and treasury management and digital transformation.

The collaboration also includes joint research efforts on finance, economics and banking trends, as well as advocacy projects focused on digital finance, financial literacy, inclusion and sustainability.

“As the banking industry continues to evolve due to changes in the operating environment, there is a need for the workforce to continuously develop its capabilities,” said BAP president Jose Teodoro K. Limcaoco. “This partnership ensures our professionals are equipped to maximize their potential and drive industry growth.”

BAP Education Committee Chair Jerry Ngo emphasized that the initiative goes beyond skills development. “This is about shaping a generation of professionals grounded in resilience, digital fluency, and ethical leadership,” he said.

Baiphil president Iñigo L. Regalado III echoed the sentiment, noting that the industry is undergoing rapid transformation.

“The banking sector, five to 10 years from now, may look entirely different. This MOU is our step toward ensuring Philippine banks remain ahead of the curve.”

Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to elevating the country’s banking standards through continuous learning and collaboration, positioning the Philippines to better navigate global challenges and opportunities. / KOC
