
A BARANGAY councilor in the town of Sierra Bullones, Bohol, was shot dead by his drinking companion at 11:05 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2025, the eve of election day.
The incident took place in Purok 4, Sitio Cagyo, Barangay Matin-ao.
The victim, a 60-year-old widower, was a resident of the area where the shooting occurred. The suspect, who is also a resident and neighbor, is 63 years old.
Initial investigation by the Sierra Bullones Police Station revealed that the victim and the suspect were drinking at a neighbor’s house. When both were intoxicated, an argument ensued over a personal grudge. The suspect then allegedly drew a firearm and shot the victim in the chest.
The victim was rushed to the Congressman Simeon Toribio Memorial Hospital in the town of Carmen, but was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
Responding police officers immediately arrested the suspect, who is now in the custody of the Sierra Bullones Municipal Police Station.
Recovered from the suspect’s possession was a .38 caliber revolver, two live rounds, and one fired cartridge still in the cylinder.
According to residents and witnesses, the two had a long-standing personal conflict.
Bohol Police Provincial Office Chief Colonel Arnel Banzon clarified that the incident was not election-related.
Charges related to the killing of the victim, including violation of the Comelec gun ban, are being prepared against the suspect. (AYB)
