A PORTION of the southbound lane of J.P. Rizal Street in Barangay Basak, Mandaue City, will be temporarily closed starting Tuesday, March 4, 2025 to facilitate the third phase of the drainage improvement project in the area.
In a Facebook (FB) post on Saturday, March 1, the
Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team) said to
accommodate traffic during the closure, particularly at the corner of Consuelo Village, half of the northbound lane will be designated for southbound vehicles.
“Please expect heavy traffic with the implementation of the rehabilitation of the drainage project,” said Team head Hyll Retuya in a text message to SunStar Cebu on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
Team also provided alternative routes to help ease congestion.
Motorists traveling from the north toward Cebu City are advised to turn right on H. Abellana Street at the Canduman intersection, then turn left to B. Suico Street.
Vehicles on H. Abellana Street heading to Mandaue City or Cebu City may take D. S. Suico Street, turn left on B. Suico Street, continue straight to P. L. Sanchez Street, and finally turn right on J.P. Rizal Street, bypassing the affected section.
“Plan your trip, and leave early than your usual time. There are diversion roads that we are initiating, you may take them to avoid the choke point in JP Rizal Street,” said Retuya.
“Be patient and avoid any unnecessary engagement with other road users which may rather lead to road rage,” Retuya added.
The road closure to fix the drainage system in the area is a necessary measure to address persistent flooding there during heavy rains.
To prevent further disruptions, the contractor aims to complete the project before the onset of the rainy season.
“The contractor is doing the project this month just in time before the rainy season. The contractor estimated that the road will be closed for a minimum of one month,” read part of the FB post.
Motorists are urged to follow traffic management advisories.
Local businesses and residents in the affected area are also advised to anticipate possible delays and adjust their schedules as needed.
Team personnel will be deployed to manage the flow of vehicles and ensure minimal disruption to the traffic flow. / CAV
