GOV. Gwendolyn Garcia led the inauguration of the Moalboal Bulk Water Supply Project in Barangay Bala on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. This project is a key component of the P3-billion Cebu Provincial Government’s Water System Development Program.

According to a report from Sugbo News, the Capitol’s media arm, on Thursday, June 12, the project, which received over P300 million in funding, includes a modern water treatment facility and a 63-kilometer pipeline network supplying nine barangays.

With the system now operational, more than 8,000 households in Moalboal have access to clean and treated water. The initiative aims to address long-standing water scarcity issues and support the town’s booming tourism industry.

Garcia was joined by Moalboal Mayor Inocentes Cabaron during the ceremony, which marked a major milestone in improving basic services in southern Cebu.

A SunStar Cebu report on Jan. 1 indicated that the Provincial Government started charging about 9,000 households in Moalboal for their water consumption after they had enjoyed free usage for three months.

In the same report, Mayor Cabaron stated that the nine barangays — Poblacion West, Poblacion East, Tunga, Saavedra, Bugho, Tuble, Basdiot, Lanao and Bala — are not currently covered by the town’s existing local water district.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Garcia also led the inauguration of a newly completed road concreting project in Moalboal.

The project, identified as Phase III of the Poblacion-Bugho Road section, was implemented by the Provincial Government at a total cost of P40.1 million. It spans 2.13 kilometers in length and 6.10 meters in width, with a cement thickness of nine inches.

The newly concreted road connects Barangays Poblacion and Bugho, offering motorists an alternative route and helping ease congestion along the main thoroughfare. / CDF
