THE southwestern municipality of Aloguinsan, known as the eco-tourism capital of Cebu, has officially been launched as the newest diving destination in Cebu.

The Department of Tourism in Central Visayas (DOT 7), in cooperation with the Cebu Provincial Government, kicked off on Friday, Nov. 12, 2021 the Aloguinsan leg of the DIVE7, a diving event initiated by DOT 7 to promote Cebu as a diving spot in the Philippines.

DOT 7 Director Shahlimar Tamano said DIVE7 will now be a yearly event to make a sustainable promotion to make Cebu and Central Visayas premier diving sites in the Philippines and the world.

He said they aim to discover more potential diving sites in Cebu.

Malapascua Island in northern Cebu and the southern town of Moalboal are two of the famous diving destinations in Cebu, popular to foreign divers like Japanese, Koreans and Americans

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, who graced the event, said the promotion of diving in Aloguinsan is “yet another milestone” for the tourism industry in Cebu, which continues to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Garcia described Aloguinsan as a “prime tourism destination” in Cebu, thanks to its white-sand beaches and amazing attractions.

Aloguinsan is a paradise for eco-tourists, from bird watching while kayaking along the mangroves of the mystical Bojo River, to snorkeling and diving in the breathtaking corals of Kantabogon Legendary. The Bojo River empties into the Tañon Strait, known for its rich marine life.(CSL)
