Expo to help homegrown bakeries, cafes to level up

START-UP bakery businesses have the potential to grow through innovation and technology as they will be linked with various suppliers in their industry.

This is the goal of the Bakery World 2023, an event in September organized by the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).

MCCI President Kelie Ko, chairman of the Bakery World exhibit, said the expo aims to enable bakeries and café owners, especially small and medium ones, to level up.

The 2023 Bakery World exhibition is scheduled from Sept. 14 to 16, 2023 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino Cebu City.

“We’re going to see a lot of bakery and café related suppliers, from ingredients to equipment and a little bit of packaging. They will see different ways of using products, and come up with new products. We will also have food photography sessions,” Ko said.

This year’s expo is expected to attract over 100 exhibitors.

The first Bakery World exhibition was organized by the chamber in 2018.

Stanley Go, MCCI’s former president, said the Bakery World exhibition is part of the chamber’s efforts to provide business opportunities to various stakeholders in the baking and food industry in the Visayas and Mindanao. The goal was to help home-based bakers grow their businesses.

The first run was able to draw 57 exhibitors in 113 booths. The event was well attended by personalities in the baking industry from the Philippines, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan and the United States of America.

There were more than 5,000 visitors who came during the three-day show. The event featured 20 baking demonstrations and seminars with 24 speakers from the baking and food industry.

This year’s exhibit carries the theme: “Learn. Innovate. Grow.” Participants will see and learn the latest technologies, innovations and trends in the baking industry. This will help entrepreneurs improve their products and services and be more competitive as well as open more markets for their products.

“With Bakery World we can bring in ways to help these small bakers. By giving them access to ingredients and equipment they can use, such as a mixer, they can increase productivity, improve the product quality, and even create new innovations,” Go said.

“The year 2023 is a very exciting yet critical year as the world finally emerges from the global pandemic. This is a time of new beginnings, of renewal, change, and new opportunities as we forge ahead to a new era,” Ko added.
