CHINESE tech giant Huawei has boosted its grip on the Cebu market with the opening of its new concept store in the city.
Jeffrey Dy, head of sales at Huawei Philippines, said the firm sustains its optimism on the Visayas market as a whole.
“We’re launching new products next year,” Dy said.
The company’s newest concept store, located at the newly opened Ayala Malls Central Bloc, brings its latest smartphone models and technology devices.
Huawei’s expansion in Cebu affirms the Chinese brand’s bullish outlook on the local smartphone market, officials said.
Despite the intense competition in the smartphone business, Dy said the company will remain strong in the Philippine market.
He said Visayan consumers could expect the launch of new Huawei technology products in 2020, as the firm diversifies from its core smartphone business.
Market standing
According to analyst firm Canalys, Oppo, also a Chinese phone maker, held the biggest market share at 28 percent in the Philippines as of the second quarter of 2019 in terms of total smartphone shipment to the country.
It was followed by Samsung with 19 percent and Vivo at 17 percent.
If combined, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Realme and Huawei make up 62 percent of the Southeast Asian market, increasing from the 50 percent of the same period last year, Canalys said.
Shipments
Globally, Huawei has recently overtaken Apple as the world’s second largest brand in global smartphone sales, following results from the first quarter of 2019.
The company has been steadily growing year-on-year, crossing the 100 million mark in smartphone shipments by the end of May 2019, its fastest pace recorded to date. (CSL)
