RHONVEX Capuloy looks to end his year with a bang as he takes on Jason Tinampay for the vacant World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Australasian super-featherweight belt in the main event of Big Yellow Boxing Promotions’ “Bakbakan Uno” on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024, at the Conequip Philippines Inc. Showroom in Mandaue City.
Capuloy is looking to end his winless drought and finally secure a regional belt for the first time in his career.
“This is a huge opportunity for me. I’ll do my best to win and get that belt so that I’ll go up the rankings. I thank my manager and promoter for giving me this opportunity,” said Capuloy.
The 28-year-old Capuloy was close to winning a regional belt earlier this year after fighting Chinese boxer Zhi Gang Zhang for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Far East super-featherweight strap in South Korea. But the fight ended in a controversial draw.
Capuloy lost his last bout, a fourth-round technical knockout to Japanese fighter Shunpei Ohata on Aug. 8, 2024, in Japan.
Like Capuloy, Tinampay is also eager to win his first regional belt.
“It’s been my dream to become a champion. I have studied his (Capuloy) style and sparred really hard for this fight. I wish him good luck tomorrow,” said Tinampay.
Tinampay dropped his last two fights against Reymond Empic and Alan Alberca.
Both Capuloy and Tinampay weighed in at 129.1 pounds.
Capuloy is 11-3-3 with eight knockouts, while Tinampay is 14-19-2 with 11 knockouts.
In the undercard, fighting cop Jusue Bastillada (8-1, 5 KOs) trades leathers with Paolo Fortun (3-1, 1 KO), Reycar Auxilio (6-4-1, 5 KOs) faces off with former ALA boy Jess Rhey Waminal (16-11-1, 9 KOs), Arlando Senoc (3-0, 2 KOs) goes up against George Sedillo (2-2-3), John Rey Labajo (3-2-1, 3 KOs) takes on Dixson Ercillo (2-3, 1 KO), Taiwanese Ming Hung Lee (9-1, 6 KOs) locks horns with Kim Lindog (8-19-1, 5 KOs), Emje Felicilda (2-0) clashes with Ronie Urgel (0-1), and Mark Anthony Sarino (2-1, 1 KO) battles Norman Rusiana (1-6-2).
It’s been five years since Big Yellow Boxing Promotions, headed by Seth Oliver Tio, last promoted a fight in Cebu. The last show in 2019 featured the WBF minimumweight fight between Rey Caitom and Ar Ar Andales at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
“It’s been long time since we last promoted a boxing event. Now we’re glad to be back,” said Tio. “Our direction for our boxers is to elevate them in the rankings and, hopefully, one of them will be fighting for a world title.”
This card is just the beginning of a series of boxing events by Big Yellow Boxing Promotions. / EKA
