THE reopening of V. Padriga St. on July 1, 2025, drew praise from major property developers in the area, saying that it would ease chronic traffic congestion in the Banilad-Talamban corridor, a key access route to Cebu IT Park.
They see the reopening as a crucial infrastructure improvement to support the growing economic and residential activities surrounding Cebu IT Park and neighboring business hubs.
Ryan Bernard Go, president of Grand Land Inc., welcomed the development, noting the positive impact on traffic flow along Banilad Road.
“It’s a relief, especially during peak hours. The congestion along the T-junction in Salinas Drive is still a challenge, but that’s also a sign that business activity has returned to pre-pandemic levels,” Go said.
He emphasized that improved connectivity benefits everyone and urged continued infrastructure development.
“We need projects like the BRT to push through. Cebu is expanding rapidly, but we’re still behind when it comes to road infrastructure,” he added.
In 2019, the administration of former governor Gwendolyn Garcia took back control of Capitol-owned properties at the Cebu IT Park, affecting at least five access roads on Gov. Cuenco Ave. leading to Cebu IT Park. One of the roads closed was V. Padriga St. near the National Food Authority warehouses.
Joe Soberano, chairman and chief executive officer of Cebu Landmasters Inc. (CLI), also hailed the reopening of the access road.
“This is a welcome development. It’s a step forward in improving mobility to and from Cebu IT Park, Banilad, and Talamban,” he said, expressing appreciation to city officials for facilitating the road’s reopening. Both CLI and Grand Land have existing real estate projects in the area.
The reopening is expected to support ongoing developments and ease logistical challenges for residents, workers, and businesses in the area. They are hopeful the move signals further government action to address Metro Cebu’s infrastructure gaps. / KOC
