Cebu Greats stay hot, drub Bulacan
THE Cebu Greats continued their surge with another convincing victory.
On Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, the Cebu Greats dominated the Bulacan Kuyas, 87-71, in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) at the Quezon Convention Center.
Former University of the Philippines standouts Paul Desiderio and Jun Manzo once again led the charge, securing Cebu’s fourth straight win to improve their record to 9-15 and keep their playoff hopes alive.
Desiderio tallied 24 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, enough to earn him Best Player of the Game honors. Manzo added 16 points, three rebounds, and three assists.
Mark Meneses also delivered a solid performance with seven points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and four blocks, while Mac Tallo chipped in six points, eight assists, and six rebounds.
John Rey Sumido logged 17 points and five assists for Bulacan, which dropped to 3-20.
Marlon Monte had 14 points and three assists, while Airon Acop made 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Samuel Peralta contributed 10 points and eight assists for the Kuyas.
With the win, the Cebu Greats moved up to 12th place from 13th in the team standings.
They now trail Imus Braderhood (11th) and Sarangani Marlins (10th), both holding a 9-13 record.
The Cebu squad is aiming to grab the 10th spot, which would earn them a berth in the play-in. Their next opponent will be the Valenzuela City Magic on Aug. 23.
Meanwhile, MPBL action continues this Monday at the Alonte Sports Arena with three scheduled games.
The Parañaque Patriots will face Valenzuela and the Pangasinan Heatwaves go up against Pasig City.
