TO FULFILL President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s campaign promise, Cebu mayors may begin withdrawing rice from the Provincial Government to sell at P20 per kilo starting Monday, April 28, 2025.

The announcement was made by Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia during a live broadcast of Sugbo News, the Capitol’s media arm, in a meeting with provincial mayors on Friday, April 25.

“Wala man gud ni sa budget karon. Muhangyo ko sa mga gobernador karon, pero next year fully subsidized na ni sa National Government aron hangtod na ni 2028. Dili ni para karon lang tungod kay padung ang election,” Garcia said, recalling her discussion with President Marcos at the Capitol on Wednesday, April 23.

Garcia said the Province of Cebu will subsidize the rice program until December 2025, with National Government funding expected to take over next year. She assured its continuation through 2028.

Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. officially announced the program during a press conference at the Cebu Provincial Capitol, following Marcos’ meeting with governors from Central Visayas, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and the Negros Island Region. (CDF)
