THE Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) called on residents of Cebu Province not to panic over the tsunami alert issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
According to Dennis Francis Pastor, head of the PDRRMO, residents have nothing to worry about as Cebu is far from the affected areas.
“No, ayaw gyud tawon. Walay angay ikahadlok (No, please don’t panic. There’s really nothing to fear),” Pastor said.
He said Cebu is typically only affected by storm surges brought on by typhoons.
He assured, however, that their office continues to monitor the weather situation and its possible effects on towns and cities, especially to ensure the safety of residents in coastal areas.
“Naa man ta sulod sa isla. We are not directly affected. But anyway, we will always disseminate sa LDRRMOs to monitor,” he added.
(We are situated on an island, so we are not directly affected. But in any case, we will continue to disseminate information to the LDRRMOs for monitoring.)
As reported, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) issued an advisory to localities that may be affected by a tsunami following the magnitude 8.7 earthquake off the eastern coast of Kamchatka, Russia, on Wednesday.
The following LGUs were recommended to prepare for possible evacuation to safer areas:
