THE rains and cloudy skies experienced in Cebu in recent days are attributed to the combined effects of Easterlies, the northeast monsoon or “Amihan,” and a shearline, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Visayas said on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025.
Ana Dumdum, a Pagasa Visayas weather specialist, said Cebu residents can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to the Easterlies on Monday and Tuesday.
“The Easterlies and Amihan are weaker for the next two days but there is a presence on Wednesday and Thursday; it can be felt as rains can be experienced,” Dumdum said in Cebuano.
By midweek, however, mostly cloudy skies with rains are forecast on Wednesday and Thursday as the Easterlies, northeast monsoon, and shearline further influence the region’s weather patterns.
Dumdum assured the public that no tropical depressions are being monitored within the next two weeks but emphasized the importance of staying updated on weather advisories.
“Within the next two weeks, we have not seen any tropical depressions in our monitoring but the public can follow our latest weather advisory,” she said.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will continue to experience cold weather with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated light rains caused by the northeast monsoon.
Moderate to strong northeast winds are expected in northern and central Luzon, accompanied by moderate coastal waters.
For Cebu, temperatures will range between 22.2 degrees Celsius and 31.6 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
Residents are encouraged to carry umbrellas and prepare for sudden weather changes.
Pagasa reminds the public to stay updated through continuous monitoring and advisories as weather conditions evolve. / CDF
