THE Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) anticipates promising developments under its new leadership, spearheaded by Augusto Go, owner and president of the University of Cebu.
Outgoing Cesafi president Paulino Yabao of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) expressed this optimism during the formal induction and oath-taking of Cesafi’s new leaders on Thursday evening, May 29, 2025, at Citadines Hotel, Baseline Center, Juana Osmeña St., Cebu City.
Cesafi is the largest school-based sports competition in the Visayas and Mindanao.
“Cebu is not just in good hands but in the best hands,” Yabao affirmed.
In response, Go commended Yabao’s tenure and pledged to continue the advancements within Cesafi.
“You did a good job. I will just follow in your footsteps,” Go told Yabao.
Go’s term will officially begin in 2025, which coincides with Cesafi’s 25th anniversary celebration themed, “25 Years of Excellence: Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future.”
A highly anticipated initiative under Go’s direction is the significant renovation of the Cebu Coliseum, the primary venue for Cesafi’s popular basketball games.
While renovations are currently underway, Go assured that the improvements will be completed before the opening ceremony of the 2025-26 Cesafi season on Sept. 13.
Go revealed that he has a substantial investment in the Cebu Coliseum’s renovation, which will include the installation of an air-conditioning system and a Fiba-approved basketball court flooring.
“We’re expecting a cooler Cesafi 2025-26 season. Let the games begin,” Go stated.
Joining Go in the new Cesafi leadership are Fr. Francisco Antonio Estepha, SVD, from the University of San Carlos, vice president; Dr. Dino Diez from Velez College, treasurer; and Fr. Randy Figaracion, SBD, from Don Bosco Technical College, secretary.
The newly appointed Cesafi officials were sworn in by Judge Vincent Deo Albeos. / ESL
