THE Cebu Football Club (CFC) Gentle Giants are gunning for their second home game win in the ongoing Philippines Football League (PFL) on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025, at 6 p.m. when they face the Philippine Youth National Team at the Dynamic HERB - Borromeo Sports Complex in the South Road Properties, Cebu City.
A win against the Philippine Youth National Team would make for another exciting home game, the third, against Manila Digger FC on Feb. 22, as the latter gave the Gentle Giants their first taste of defeat in the first round of Season 2024-2025.
Adding fuel to the clash are the current standings, with the CFC climbing to the third spot following its win against Mendiola FC 1991 last Feb. 8, just behind second-running Manila Digger.
The Gentle Giants have 17 points with a 5-2-2 win-draw-loss record, while Manila Digger has 21 points with a 7-0-2 card.
Thus, a win against the Philippine Youth National Team would bring the Gentle Giants just a point behind Manila Digger when they clash, presenting a huge chance to grab the second spot should things go their way.
But first, they have to get past the Philippine Youth National Team which gave them a hard time in the first round before eventually managing a 2-0 win last Oct. 6, 2024.
According to newly-installed head coach Tomasito “Glenn” Ramos, the players are already at 70 percent in terms of team chemistry, an aspect they struggled with in their first away game against Kaya this year, where they succumbed to a 1-3 loss.
“We have so many corrections to improve especially on the defending side and also our transition for the game. So before Wednesday, we will work on this,” said Ramos.
Aside from working hard in training, Ramos said the players need to know each other because they come from different nationalities. They also have to adapt to the new system of attacking and defending.
Coach Ramos is also calling on the Cebuanos to continue supporting them in their home games, as they still have seven left.
“Thank you very much for the support, I hope you will continue to support us because this is ours. We are here in Cebu, and we are the host,” he said. / PR
