LAPU-LAPU City Mayor-elect Cynthia “Cindi” King-Chan has promised to continue the infrastructure projects initiated by her husband, outgoing Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan, when she assumes office.
Chan said in a statement on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, that she will also work on the city’s healthcare, education sector and tourism industry when she assumes office in June.
“I stand ready to lead with integrity, compassion, and a clear vision: We will continue what we have started—building world-class infrastructure, strengthening our healthcare and education systems and uplifting our tourism industry,” said Chan whose husband will take over her post as representative of the Lone District of Lapu-Lapu City.
Cindi also thanked voters for their trust, faith and overwhelming support.
“Your voices have been heard loud and clear. You have chosen continuity with change, progress with heart, and leadership that listens, acts, and serves,” she said.
The following major projects were initiated by her husband and are pending completion: The 12-kilometer Lapu-Lapu Expressway, the fourth Mactan-Cebu bridge, socialized housing in Barangays Canjulao and Calawisan, a new Lapu-Lapu City Hall building, a coastal road, drainage projects and road expansions.
In the mayoral race in the midterm elections on Monday, May 12, Chan won over ex-mayor Paz Radaza and independent candidate Cristine Takahashi.
This marks Chan’s first term as mayor after winning a congressional seat in the elections last 2022.
Her political party, Team Kaabag, also secured a 15-0 victory, with 11 incumbent councilors and former Canjulao Barangay Captain Rufo Bering winning their respective races.
Aside from Bering, the city’s newly elected councilors are Marciano Alforque, Annabeth Cuizon, Susan Baring, Celestino Aying, Jan Vincent dela Serna, Efren Herrera, Ariane Yap, Climaco Tatoy Jr., Jeorgen Eyas-Book, Joseph Pangatungan and Emilio Galaroza Jr. / DPC
