City Government releases funds for SK projects
THE Cebu City Government has distributed P1.5 million in financial assistance to 25 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairpersons to support youth development initiatives in their barangays.
The distribution ceremony took place at the mayor’s conference room in City Hall on Friday, May 30, 2025.
This came after the City Council approved 32 resolutions authored by SK Federation president and Councilor Rhea Mae Jakosalem during a regular session on Wednesday, May 28. The resolutions authorized the release of the financial assistance for SK youth-oriented projects.
“Use this to fully implement projects for the youth. Prioritize initiatives that truly matter,” outgoing Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia told the SK leaders.
Garcia also directed the full release of the funds to ensure timely and effective implementation.
Among the recipients was SK chairperson Mele Mercado of Barangay Sudlon 1, who said the funds will be used to buy armchairs for public school students in her community.
“This assistance will significantly help us respond to the needs of our students,” Mercado said, as quoted by the Cebu City Public Information Office.
In Barangay Bonbon, SK chairman John Dave Bacus said the allocation will fund the establishment of learning hubs and the organization of a barangay-wide sports fest, both required under the SK mandate.
