THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Visayas is currently monitoring a cloud cluster within the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) that could potentially develop into a low pressure area (LPA).

According to Jhomer Eclarino, a weather specialist from Pagasa Visayas who spoke to reporters on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, the southwest monsoon (habagat) has been bringing rain to the Visayas and other parts of the country since Monday and even the days prior.

Eclarino said the cloud cluster they are monitoring is a candidate for LPA development, with a medium or around 50 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone within the week.

If it forms, it will be the third tropical cyclone to enter the PAR in 2025.

He added that occasional heavy rains and moderate to rough sea conditions will persist throughout the week in Cebu and Visayas.

The weather bureau has advised the public to remain vigilant for possible flash floods, landslides, and rough seas, posing potential risks to sea travel, particularly for small vessels. (DPC)
