THE Commission on Elections in Central Visayas (Comelec 7) is urging canvassing boards across the region to install LED screens or projectors outside their canvassing centers to allow supporters and the public to witness the vote canvassing process without entering restricted areas.
Comelec 7 Regional Director Francisco Pobe said in an interview on Thursday, May 8, 2025, that only authorized individuals will be allowed inside canvassing venues once the official counting begins.
“The public is not allowed inside the canvassing area. Only official representatives, one or two of each slate—such as accredited poll watchers and legal counsels—are permitted, provided they have proper documentation issued by the Commission,” Pobe said.
He said supporters of candidates are strictly prohibited from entering the venue to prevent overcrowding and potential disruptions.
However, Pobe clarified that family members of candidates may be allowed entry on a case-to-case basis.
“Family members can be allowed, but it depends on the available space and the discretion of the chairman of the board of canvassers. If there’s room and it won’t disrupt the process, then they may be accommodated,” he said.
The restriction is part of Comelec’s effort to maintain order, security, and transparency during the canvassing period.
Pobe said only Comelec-identified personnel and individuals with official functions will be permitted inside.
Viewing areas
To ensure transparency, Pobe encouraged local government units and election officers to set up viewing areas outside canvassing centers.
“We want to maintain transparency while also managing the crowd. That’s why we’re encouraging the use of projectors and LED walls outside, so people can still watch,” he said.
Pobe said election preparations in Region 7 are now complete.
“We’re 100 percent ready. Everything is in place, we’re just waiting for May 12,” he said. / CAV
