THE LAPU-LAPU City Police Office (LCPO) has urged motorists to follow traffic rules after consecutive road rage incidents in the city.
LCPO spokesman Lt. Col. Christian Torres, in an interview with SunStar Cebu, reminded vehicle owners to practice patience and discipline while on the road, warning that the lack of either could lead to accidents or incidents of road rage.
This advisory came after two reported incidents that occurred just days apart — on June 18 and June 23, 2025.
In the first incident, which took place in Barangay Basak, a uniformed casual worker from City Hall was caught on video confronting and physically assaulting another motorcyclist, inflicting damage on his motorcycle.
Congressman-elect Junard “Ahong” Chan directed City Administrator Danilo Almendras to verify the employee’s identity, prompting the victim to file a formal complaint.
Reports showed that six days after the incident, the 55-year-old casual employee — a former barangay tanod turned dump truck driver — was dismissed from service.
The second incident occurred on June 23 in Barangay Canjulao and involved an ex-convict who reportedly hit a motorcycle driver during a dispute over a parking space.
According to Torres, the suspect, who had previous criminal cases including rape, drug offenses and acts of lasciviousness, acted out of arrogance and refused to give way during the parking dispute.
After a video of the confrontation went viral, the suspect surrendered to Police Station 3 and issued a public apology. Torres said the filing of a case would depend on the decision of the victim.
He stressed that, in light of these incidents, following traffic rules is not only a basic requirement for obtaining a driver’s license but also critical to ensuring safe and orderly travel for everyone. / DPC
