CEBU CITY councilors are looking forward to fulfilling their promises to Cebuanos upon assuming office at noon on Monday, June 30, 2025.
In an interview with SunStar, newly elected South District Councilor Michelle Abella and reelected Councilor Jose Lorenzo Abellanosa expressed their excitement to serve the people and deliver on their campaign pledges.
Abella specifically aims to fulfill her campaign promise of promoting mental wellness across all 80 barangays in Cebu City.
“This will be for all families, women and the LGBTQ community. All of us in the city of 80 barangays, it’s really more about mental wellness for everyone,” she stated. She added that she has already secured support for this initiative by reaching agreements with various sectors, including heads of community extension services from academic institutions, psychologists, parish councilors and representatives of guidance counselors.
Abella further committed her full support to the Mayor-elect Nestor Archival’s projects for the betterment of Cebuanos.
“All-out support for the good of Cebuanos. I will really support all of the mayor’s projects,” she said.
In support of Archival and Vice Mayor-elect Tomas Osmeña, Abellanosa aims to increase financial assistance for senior citizens. He also emphasized his commitment to advocating for the youth, solo parents and persons with disability.
Abellanosa said the incoming administration will prioritize listening to the voices of the people, as they are most aware of the city’s needs.
“We will really listen more to the people because through them, we will know what our city lacks,” he said, while urging Cebuanos to continue supporting the City Government.
Meanwhile, North District Councilor Nyza “Nice” Archival aims to empower the youth and all residents of Cebu City. She plans to amend former councilor Raul Alcoseba’s ordinance regarding the supply of school materials from Grade 1 to high school.
The newly elected legislator stressed that age is not a barrier and that the youth are capable of achieving many things.
“Never underestimate the power of the youth; we have a stance in the City Council. The age gap isn’t a barrier just because we’re young, we can still do a lot of things,” she said.
