THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), through the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC), is ramping up its efforts to prevent work-related injuries and death and promote safety at work.

A technical forum was held in Mandaue City by DOLE and the OSHC to provide comprehensive support to improve workplace safety, reduce risks and prevent accidents that could result in severe injury or death.

The forum focused on digital technology in the practice of occupational medicine, in line with the upcoming celebration of Occupational Medicine Week, held in partnership with the Philippine College of Occupational Medicine, Inc. beginning Monday, March 17, 2025.

DOLE and the OSHC’s main objective is to provide elaborate safety and risk support in the workplace and avoid accidents that could lead to severe injuries or worse, death, while on official duty hours.

“I always say that the simplest philosophy at work is something like, you go to work alive and you go home — alive,” OSHC executive director Jose Maria Batino said in Filipino.

According to Batino, the OSHC, through its programs and trainings, aims to create a culture of safety and health in the workplace, ensuring that workers remain safe throughout their workday and return home unharmed.

“For all workers to have safety in their minds everyday of their lives as they work eight hours a day. And in the afternoon, the only thing they want is to go home to their families, safe and alive,” Batino added.

The forum was held at Bai Hotel, Mandaue City on March 14, Friday. / Cian Napalit and Glenn Tan, BiPSU Comm Interns
