THE Department of Science and Technology in Central Visayas (DOST 7) is intensifying its efforts to promote its scholarship program across the region.
The agency aims to provide more educational opportunities for students in the region, as announced during a press briefing on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
DOST 7 Assistant Director Dr. Tristan L. Abando said that personnel are visiting various municipalities to encourage students to apply for the scholarship.
As of December 2024, the program supported 2,527 undergraduate scholars.
In the academic year 2024-2025, 966 scholars graduated, and 1,848 new students were accepted.
To continue this growth, DOST 7 will hold another scholarship examination on April 5-6, 2025. This exam will select new beneficiaries for the program.
Successful applicants will receive a monthly stipend of P8,000. They will also benefit from support from scholar associations, university coordinators, and leadership training.
DOST 7 also offers career development initiatives to equip scholars with essential skills.
The agency clarified that scholars whose scholarships are terminated due to academic issues can request reinstatement.
DOST 7 Director Engr. Jesus F. Zamora Jr. urged alumni to assist current scholars in finding employment after graduation.
He encouraged alumni in higher positions to help scholars secure jobs in science and technology-related fields within the Philippines, as required by the program’s service agreement.
Aspiring scholars can find more information about the scholarship program and the upcoming examination on the DOST 7 website or at their nearest DOST office. (Glenn C. Tan, BiPSU Comm intern)
