THE Philippines is positioning itself as a premier destination for digital nomads, with Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco calling on remote workers and long-stay travelers to explore the country’s unique offerings at the Skift Asia Forum 2025 held in Bangkok on May 15.

Speaking before global tourism executives and thought leaders, Frasco touted the Philippines’ affordability, English-speaking population, rich cultural heritage and scenic islands as key advantages for digital workers looking for high-value, immersive experiences.

“Long-stay travelers from around the world work in paradise where the value proposition is not just low-cost living, but high-value experiences—from hospitality and culture to connectivity,” Frasco said during her address.

The push to attract digital nomads aligns with Executive Order 86, signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in April 2025, which authorizes the issuance of a Digital Nomad Visa. The new visa is part of the country’s broader efforts to tap into the growing global remote work market and expand its tourism offerings.

Frasco emphasized that the Department of Tourism is working closely with local government units and regional offices to ensure infrastructure, safety and tourism circuits are in place to support long-term foreign visitors.

“Our focus is on building strong infrastructure and ensuring both safety and meaningful cultural experiences for our digital nomads,” she said.

The Skift Asia Forum is a key gathering of decision-makers in travel and hospitality, exploring trends and innovation across the global tourism value chain. Hosted by Skift Asia, a regional extension of the US-based travel intelligence firm, the forum spotlights emerging market opportunities and industry shifts shaping the future of tourism. / KOC
