A POLICE officer, who was reportedly intoxicated, was arrested after threatening a civilian in Barangay Sapangdaku, Mandaue City around 4 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2025.
The suspect, identified as Police Corporal Ivan Gabutan Labra, 31, a resident of Sitio Arcus, Barangay Sapangdaku, Cebu City, is assigned to Station 3 of the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO).
The victim, Nerson Rosaceña Almario, 32, from Sitio Lupa, Barangay Sapangdaku, said Labra, who appeared to be intoxicated, was looking for someone and had asked him about it. He added that he was busy at the time, so he ignored Labra when the officer tried to engage him in conversation.
The situation quickly escalated when the suspect became enraged.
Labra allegedly assaulted Almario, punching him multiple times, and then pulled out his service firearm, a 9mm pistol, threatening the victim’s life.
Almario filed a formal complaint at the Guadalupe Police Station, recounting the events of the assault.
Labra was arrested by authorities around, who confirmed that he was still under the influence of alcohol at the time of his apprehension.
Investigators seized Labra’s service firearm, including ammunition, and legal proceedings are being prepared against the officer. (AYB/SunStar Philippines)
