THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7 released emergency cash assistance to 781 families displaced by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon on Negros Island.

From June 3 to 5, 2025, each family staying in evacuation centers in Canlaon City received P5,205 to help cover their basic needs during the ongoing crisis.

DSWD 7 Director Shalaine Marie Lucero said the Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) program ensures that those affected by the volcanic unrest receive immediate support for necessities.

The eruption has significantly impacted the lives of Canlaon City residents, and the initiative demonstrates the agency’s commitment to their well-being, she added.

Some parents plan to use the financial aid for their children’s educational expenses for the upcoming school year.

The distribution was facilitated by the Disaster Response and Rehabilitation Section of the DSWD 7’s Disaster Response Management Division.
