THE Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD 7) praised local government units (LGUs) for successfully implementing the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) which helped over 150,000 children.
On Sunday, June 29, 2025, DSWD 7 Regional Director Shalaine Marie Lucero recognized the active participation of 130 cities and municipalities in Central Visayas. Their commitment ensured the success of the program's 14th cycle.
The current cycle provided nutritious meals for 120 feeding days, benefiting 150,637 children.
The SFP combats malnutrition and improves the nutritional status of children. It targets children aged two to five enrolled in Child Development Centers (CDCs) and Supervised Neighborhood Plays (SNPs). The program also serves undernourished children up to 12 years old.
Meals provided meet one-third of the Recommended Energy and Nutrient Intake (RENI). They use locally available ingredients. These include fortified hot meals, nutribuns, enhanced nutripacks, and fresh milk for undernourished children.
Beyond feeding, the program includes growth monitoring at the start and end of each cycle. Parenting Effectiveness Sessions (PES) also educate parents on nutrition and child care.
The SFP aligns with Republic Act 11037, known as the "Masustansyang Pagkain para sa Batang Pilipino Act." It operates under the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) program.
Nearly four million children nationwide have benefited from the program. Central Visayas has significantly contributed to this number through strong LGU cooperation. (CDF)
