BASKETBALL superstar Kevin Durant has officially stepped into the world of European football, acquiring a minority stake in French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the club announced Saturday, June 21, 2025.
The move comes as part of a broader strategic partnership agreement between Durant and Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), PSG’s majority shareholder. While financial terms were not revealed, the collaboration signals a significant cross-sport investment from one of basketball’s most influential figures.
“Under the terms of the partnership, Durant — via his media and investment company Boardroom, co-founded with long-time business partner Rich Kleiman — will acquire a direct minority stake in the club,” PSG said in a statement.
The partnership positions Durant at the forefront of PSG’s multi-sport expansion plans, with a particular eye on potential ventures into professional basketball. The announcement also coincides with ongoing discussions among the NBA, Fiba and other global stakeholders about launching a new European basketball league — making Durant’s involvement especially timely.
The Phoenix Suns forward, a two-time NBA champion and the most decorated Olympic basketball player in men’s history with four gold medals, called the partnership deeply personal.
“It is an honor to partner with QSI and be a shareholder in Paris Saint-Germain — a club and city that is deeply close to my heart,” said Durant, 36, in a statement released by PSG. “This club has big plans and I look forward to being part of the next phase of growth and exploring new investment opportunities with QSI.”
Beyond club ownership, the deal includes plans for Durant’s Boardroom Sports Holdings and QSI to collaborate on a wide range of commercial, media and investment initiatives, spanning content creation, branding and global market strategy.
PSG added that Durant’s involvement will help drive the club’s international growth, especially in the United States, where PSG has rapidly built a fanbase in recent years through marquee signings and branding efforts.
Already a player known for extending his impact beyond the court, Durant’s foray into football ownership further cements his role as a major player in global sports business. / RSC
