A 33-YEAR-OLD e-bike driver, who was recently released from prison, was shot and killed by two men on a motorcycle on B. Aranas St. in Barangay San Nicolas Proper, Cebu City at 9:58 a.m. Sunday, June 22, 2025.

The victim was identified as Ronnie Aya-ay Lawas, a resident of Sitio Kastilaan, Barangay Ermita.

An investigation by the Sawang Calero Police Station revealed that Lawas was recently released from the Abuyog Penal Farm, where he was imprisoned for murder and illegal possession of firearms.

Police said Lawas was driving his e-bike when two assailants on a motorcycle approached him. The passenger on the motorcycle drew a firearm and shot Lawas. The first shot misfired, but two more shots followed, police said.

After the suspects fled, the victim was still able to ask for help from people in the area.

Police officers on foot patrol near the scene responded, finding the victim bleeding and slumped over his e-bike.

He was brought to the Cebu City Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.

Investigators have obtained security footage and are now tracking the suspects’ escape route. Police are investigating all possible motives, including a personal grudge and involvement in illegal drugs. / AYB
