TWO people, a senior citizen and an Indian national, died in separate road accidents in Cebu City on Monday morning, July 21, 2025. Both victims suffered severe head injuries.
The first accident happened around 4 a.m. near Archbishop Reyes Avenue, where 79-year-old Leonica Jamero was hit by a motorcycle while crossing the road.
The driver, 24-year-old Chayle Kim Lumpas, said he didn’t see the victim in time to brake as she appeared suddenly.
Jamero, a widow and street vendor from Barangay Kamputhaw, died from the impact.
In a separate incident around 5:10 a.m., a 24-year-old Indian national, Chetan Halvidiya, who was riding a motorcycle, reportedly slammed into the railings of a flyover along Gov. M. Cuenco Avenue in Barangay Banilad.
He suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to Perpetual Succour Hospital, but was declared dead shortly after.
His friend, Mistry Niraj, who was riding another motorcycle behind him, said they had just come from a night out at a club.
He noted that Halvidiya was speeding, and by the time they reached the flyover, he found him already unresponsive on the road. (JDG)
